What is Targeted PEMF? ( Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy) This Revolutionary Therapy is the most significant advancement in the field of Physical Medicine in the last 50 years! Developed by NASA and the Russian MIR Space program; PEMF positively impacts energy levels within damaged or injured cells. It does this by directing repeated electromagnetic pulses toward the affected cells, stimulating a positive healing response. The way PEMF works is simple. The Magna Wave emits these targeted electro magnetic pulses through a coil applicator. This applicator is placed on or near the area which is injured or painful. (see the picture below) The intensity is turned up slowly to the patient’s comfort level. Usually until they feel a slight painless twitch. Typical treatments will last about 30 minutes. Wear light cotton clothing. Perhaps the easiest way to understand PEMF is to think in terms of each cell in your body as if it were a little battery. Like any battery, sometimes your cells become tired and worn, whether due to age, stress, overuse, or injury, making it more difficult for them to fight off any type of potentially damaging force or illness. The body response is PAIN. Healthy Cells "Operate" at about 70-110 micro volts. When the electrical charge on the cell membrane drops below 30-50- micro volts, toxins build up, oxygen levels drop, and the cell becomes sick. PEMF is the only known therapy that increases cell membrane voltage! Hence, PEMF is sort of like jump starting a car with a dead battery to get it functioning again. PEMF jump starts a stalled healing process. Targeted PEMF also has a mechanical effect on the cell. Some researchers describe it as "Cellular Exercise" . The Twitch mentioned in the last paragraph is like a miniature mechanical contraction of the cell membrane. Think of the damaged cell like an extremely dirty sponge. These contractions help squeeze the intra and extra cellular fluids in and out in a cleansing action. PEMF has been proven to speed bone fracture healing and post surgical bone graft recovery. PEMF is approved by the FDA for these conditions. For other conditions it is considered Experimental/Investigational. Some conditions that have shown a preliminary positive response in clinical and laboratory trials: Peripheral Neuropathy, Fibromyalgia, Neck and back pain, Osteoarthritis, Sprains and Strains, Disc Problems, Frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome. Cartilage injury, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain from CRPS/RSD. Spinal Fusion and Joint Replacement recovery times are significantly reduced when PEMF is added to the rehab program. Many other trials are underway. There are no known serious side effects of PEMF. Some mild, (5% of patients) temporary reactions include; sleepiness, thirst, localized soreness (probably from the mechanical effect listed above) nausea and tingling. Even these minor side effects are easy to control by simply adjusting the pulse intensity of the Magna Wave. Patients with pace makers, cochlear implants, spinal cord stimulators, insulin pumps, morphine pumps, etc cannot be treated. All jewelry should be removed. Hearing aids, cell phones, and watches must be placed away from the machine. It WILL damage those devices. PEMF will not interfere with medicines. You can continue taking your prescriptions. It may even help absorption by increasing cell membrane permeability. I am excited to offer this revolutionary treatment option to my patients. PLEASE VISIT the "About Us" page for actual patient case histories from our first 14 months of therapy with PEMF! I have also listed some Scholarly Research Links for Physicians. PEMF is considered an experimental treatment and is not covered by insurance. Our fees are much lower than the national and state average. Treatment sessions are 30 to 60 minutes and range from $45 to $90, depending on time and the body areas treated.
